Description of Work Unit

The Mountain Sentinels Collaborative Network is composed of scholars, non-governmental and governmental organizations, stakeholders, and rights-holders working towards sustainability of mountain environments and communities worldwide through collaborative research and place-based initiatives. Our collaborations span across the globe, inclusive of North America, Latin America, Asia, and Africa, with our main office located at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO.

Position Summary

Mountain Sentinels is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to lead information synthesis, storysharing, resource creation, and partnership development related to ongoing efforts in convergence science research targeted to mountain environments worldwide.

The successful candidate will be able to fulfill the Essential Job Duties and responsibilities of the role and will be able to demonstrate the qualifications and skills needed.

The initial appointment will be for a one-year period, with possibility for renewal for an additional six month to one year period, contingent on satisfactory progress and sufficient funding.

This position also provides educational, professional development, and travel support related to the position.

This is a remote position that requires extended periods working at a desk and reliable internet connection. Quarterly to yearly travel may be required to fulfill position responsibilities, including traveling overseas. Ability to travel to international locations and navigate transportation and other travel logistics is preferred.

Required Job Qualifications
  • PhD in Social Science, Ecology, Environmental Science, or related field
  • 3-5 years of project management experience, including planning, implementation, and reporting
  • Working knowledge of social-ecological systems, Indigenous and relational models of ethics, and Indigenous data governance principles
  • Detail-oriented, organized and an independent problem solver
  • Good at working independently and collaboratively. Ability to recognize mistakes, learn from them, and maintain accountability
  • Skilled facilitator who can support collaboration across partnerships
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience with expertise in culturally-responsive, anti-oppressive mentorship and engagement strategies
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt messages to different audiences
  • Systems thinker with the ability to analyze and synthesize complex ideas, data, and policy frameworks into action-oriented deliverables
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft and Google Suite software, including Word, Powerpoint, and Excel
Preferred Job Qualifications
  • Training in Indigenous ethics and Indigenous data governance
  • Relational experience living or working in an Indigenous community context
  • Working knowledge of data synthesis and analysis tools, including NVivo, Deduce, Python, and R statistical software
  • Experience with storysharing and visual creation software, such as Miro, Mural, or Canva
