MAINTENANCE WORKER I

Public Works Department – Water & Sewer Division

Salary The starting hourly pay range for this position is $31.93 - $33.55 (DOQ).

Information: Rate increases may be awarded based on performance and after the

successful completion of a 24-month probation period.

Brief Responsible for the repair and maintenance of the Village’s water lines,

Description water mains, inlet tiles, sewer tiles, restrictors & regulators, manholes, and

of Duties: fire hydrants; Cleans and maintains holding tanks; Operates departmental

equipment including dump truck, Vac-All, jet truck, backhoe, loader, and

television truck; Interprets water & sewer infrastructure maps to identify

isolation points for water mains and flow directions for sewer mains; May

also assist in Village-wide snow removal efforts; Restores street & parkway

excavations; Required to work in confined spaces; Cleans, washes and

assists with routine maintenance of vehicles; Must be available for

occasional overtime and to respond to off-hour emergencies; Performs other

work-related duties, as assigned.

Required High School diploma or equivalent required; Must possess a valid Driver’s

Education, License, with the ability to obtain a Class B Commercial Driver’s License

Training, and (CDL) within 90 days of employment; Demonstrated knowledge of proper

Experience: trenching & excavation techniques; Must be in good physical condition and

be able to work in all outdoor weather conditions; Must have excellent

interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with

supervisors, co-workers, and the public; Practical experience with tools used

for maintenance and general construction helpful; Must be able to follow all

safety rules of the Village; Individuals in this position are subject to random

alcohol and drug testing; Physical examination and drug testing required

prior to employment.
